Home decor trends for 2019
2018 has flown by! As we look toward 2019, the new year is a wonderful time to make plans and resolutions – and also a good time to update our homes with the newest trends! Let’s take a look at some of Sue’s favorite decor ideas predicted for 2019.

The new neutrals
While neutrals have always been a staple, the definition of a neutral is changing. Welcome the new neutrals! These colors have been named the 2019 Color of the Year by Sherwin Williams and Behr.
First, there’s Sherwin Williams’ selection – Cavern Clay. This color directly relates to the extremely popular trend that’s derived from the 1970s. Cavern Clay puts a mid-century modern twist on something retro. Not only does this shade feel vintage, but it’s also an easy way to incorporate earth tones into your home – bringing the outside in to create a harmonious environment.
This shade made its way to the runway for the Fall 2018 – Winter 2019 fashion season, seen in shows such as Calvin Klein and Chloé.
Second is Blueprint from Behr. This powdery, blue-gray was described on their website as “that perfect middle of the road blue denim color- not too dark, not too light, slightly worn to keep it comfortable, but with enough color to be easily dressed up.”
Sue couldn’t agree more. This shade goes with just about everything! Finding a pillow, lampshade or piece of wall art that incorporates this color won’t be difficult, and will add a pop to most traditional neutral palettes of whites, blacks and browns. Looking for an original painting that incorporates this hue? Check out Sue’s Downtown Memphis art gallery or her website portfolio to find the oil-on-canvas you can’t live without.
Colors to play a role in 2019 home decor
2018 saw the rise of succulents in the home. That trend is predicted to carry into 2019 as well – just on a larger scale. Houseplants and other forms of greenery will continue to make their way into living rooms, and with the selection of outdoorsy Cavern Clay by Sherwin Williams as Color of the Year, Sue feels this trend will definitely make a mark.
Even though understated or neutral colors and pieces are having a moment, so are jewel tones and primary colors! Incorporating pieces in these color palettes are an easy way to spice up your decor in the new year.
Sue’s framed abstract oil-on-canvas piece shown on left does this brilliantly by using shades of blues and purples, striking a balance between calm and vibrant.
